Bogen er et festskrift til arkæolog og museumsinspektør Jørgen Meldgaard som tak for over 50 års betydningsfuldt arbejde i det arktiske og på Nationalmu- seets Etnografiske Samling. Fagfællerne Rolf Gilberg og H. C. Jørgen Meldgaard. Gulløv har redigeret det engelskspro- gede værk »Fifty Years of Arctic Re- search«, på 344 sider, 1,3 kilo fordelt på 35 danske og udenlandske arktiske for- skere. Publikationen, der er rigt illustreret med sort/hvide fotos, kort og tegnin- ger, har en omfattende bibliografi, et stednavneregister på 464 og et person- register på 617. Isbjørnen på bogens forside blev udgravet af Jørgen Meldgaard ved Alar- nerk, IglooUk i Arktisk Canada i 1954. Den 15,6 cm store figur er skåret i hval- rastand og er dateret til Dorsetkulturen, (500-1000 e.v.t). 210 [2] Festskriftet koster normalt 350 kr. (inkl. moms), men som medlem af Det grønlandske Selskab og abonnent af tidsskriftet Grønland har man nu mulig- hed for gennem selskabet at købe fest- skriftet for 290 kr. (inkl. moms + for- sendelse).
